October is Fire Safety month so we spent some time talking about fire safety. We also made fire engines as an art project. Finally, the best part of fire prevention month... a visit from Smokey Bear. We went to the library and Mr. Taranto from the forestry division gave a brief talk about fire safety in the forest. Then Miss Odessa read us the true story of Smokey Bear. Look at how well behaved we are as we listen to the speaker! The kids really enjoyed the presentation.

Mr. Taranto explains forestry fire safety to the whole 1st grade. We also learned about controlled burns and what Smokey's 4 fire rules are. See if your child can remember them!
As the children chanted "Smokey, Smokey" he rambled into the room for an up close visit!
Smokey even let us take a class picture with him!
He also had wonderful goody bags for everyone.
