Trip to the FCERR 3/19/10

Today we took a field trip to the Research Reserve to learn about marine life. We had a wonderful trip! The children enjoyed watching a pair of eagles build a nest across the river. More pictures from the trip to be posted soon!

The gang is all here!

I always have to bribe them to get a good picture... here is the funny one!

Leprechauns visit 1st grade! 3/17/2010

Everyone arrived at school today and found green water in the water cooler and in the toilet. However, there was no other evidence of leprechauns! The children kept predicting all morning when they might show up. They even thought I was the "leprechaun!" We left the room several times during the day and heard of visits to other classrooms... but our room was safe! When we returned from lunch and recess... what a mess! Tiny green footprints all over the floor, leprechaun dust, and hidden messages! I was with the children the whole time so they finally agreed it couldn't be me! One message we found told us to find treats where we store our back packs. Yeah, Lucky Charms!

The messages were written "all crazy" and someone remembered last year we had to read them in a mirror. Off to the mirror we went!
This message told us to find "magic moo juice" or milk and mix it with the powder we found. We mixed it and had a delicious green treat.

The white powder turned green!

Yummy... everyone tried our treat.

Then we had fun experimenting with rainbow colors in milk. The colors would run from the dish soap and mix to make new colors. So cool!

FCAT Spirit Week/ Dr. Seuss' Birthday (Early March)

These pictures are in reverse order... sorry but I forgot to start with the most recent.
We enjoyed a hotdog dinner at the tailgate party.
We promised to do our best on the test!

Mr. H makes his entry at the tailgate party... on the traditional tricycle!

Everyone had fun at the tailgate party!

Yeah! Let's do our best!

Packed in for the party!

Wacky Wednesday with "Mr. Ward" as our teacher!

We made oobleck to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Messy but such a cool experiment... is it a solid or liquid?

We had guest readers for Dr. Seuss' birthday... Mrs. T (Gillian's Mom... THANKS!)
Tod ay we dressed as famous people and celebrated Dr. Seuss' Birthday.
Guess who we are?

PJ's day! This was lots of fun!

Slimy Fun! 2/26/10

Our monkey chain finally reached the floor so we earned our class reward! It has really been hard to learn to walk the hallways quietly! Since everyone loves to do science experiments so much, I decided to reward them with a slimy day! We learned all about animal slime and human slime (yes- we have slime!). We learned that frogs, worms, snails, slugs, etc. have lots of slime and would die without it. We also learned that saliva and snot are a form of slime! So all animals and all humans have some form of slime. We even discovered that some plants have slime.
We made slime that looked a lot like snot... so guess what they turned it in to! We had a lot of fake sneezes going on!

We also made "guts" that started out all stringy and slimey. After working with them for awhile we had a nice big glob of slime to play with.

We also made "glow" worms and other colored worms. We made frog eggs as well. All in all.... it was a great reward through a learning experience!
